Migrate your email to Typewire in a few simple steps

Follow this easy step-by-step guide to complete your migration

This document will guide you through migrating your email addresses and data to Typewire. We will use the Thunderbird desktop email client to copy emails and folders into your new Typewire account.

It will only take a few minutes to get setup and start migrating your data into your new Typewire account.

Step 1: Enable IMAP/SMTP in your Typewire account.

  • Login to your Typewire account.
  • Go to 'Settings', 'Mail settings', 'IMAP and SMTP'.
  • Turn on 'IMAP and SMTP access'.
  • Take note of the 'IMAP settings' shown here.

Step 2: Download and install Thunderbird.

  • Using a desktop or laptop computer go to https://www.thunderbird.net/download.
  • Download the correct version of Thunderbird for your computer.
  • Install Thunderbird by executing the downloaded installer program.
  • Once installed launch Thunderbird.

Step 3: Add our Typewire account to Thunderbird.

  • In Thunderbird's account setup enter your Typewire email address and password.
  • Press 'Continue'.
  • Thunderbird will detect Typewire's server IMAP and SMTP server settings.
  • Press 'Configure manually' below the 'Available configuration' box.
  • Change the 'Username' for both 'Incoming Server' and 'Outgoing Server' to your full Typewire email address.
  • Press 'Done'.
  • Thunderbird should report 'Account successfully created'.
  • Press 'Finish'

Step 4: Add your migration source email account to Thunderbird.

  • Open Thunderbird's 'Account Settings' tab by pressing the 'Settings' icon in the bottom left corner.
  • Press 'Account Settings' in the bottom left corner.
  • In the 'Account Settings' tab press 'New Account' in the top right corner.
  • Press 'Mail Account' in the menu that appears.
  • Enter the email address and password of the account you'll be migrating from.
  • Press 'Continue'.
  • Thunderbird will detect the configuration of the email account.
  • Press 'Done' to complete the setup.
  • Press 'Finish'

Step 5: Copy email and folders into your Typewire account.

  • In Thunderbird's main tab you'll now see your Typewire account and account from which you are migrating.
  • You can now selectively copy or move email and folders to your Typewire account.
  • We suggest using the context (right-click) menus on selected items to migrate your data.
  • Select emails or folders within the source account.
  • Right-click on the selected items.
  • Use the 'Move To' or 'Copy To' sub-menus to migrate data into your Typewire account.
  • You may also select and drag items to perform the migration.

Step 6: Verify the migration data by logging into Typewire.

  • Login to your Typewire account using the web client at https://typewire.com/login.
  • Verify all the migrated emails and folders are properly imported.
  • Migrate any additional data to complete the process.

Step 7: Optional final steps.

  • Delete your accounts from Thunderbird.
  • Uninstall Thunderbird.
  • Disable 'IMAP and SMTP access' in your Typewire account.
